Unexpected celebrity deaths

What is happening? All these recent, unexpected celebrity deaths. Of course death is natural, and some of you are probably thinking, they’re just celebrities, who cares? I think it’s the suddenness of their deaths – and the fact that they were young and shouldn’t have died so unexpectedly – that makes it all the more shocking to us.

Take Heath Ledger’s death, for example. He was an incredible actor – I’ve loved his acting ever since I first saw him in “A Knight’s Tale” – and for him to die just as he was reaching a pinnacle in his career, what with “Brokeback Mountain” and of course, “Dark Knight,” was just so shocking. And very sad, because he left behind a daughter who will never know him (and have only the faintest memories of who her father was) and the world lost all the amazing movies that could have been made had he lived. Look at how amazing he was as the joker in the “Dark Knight” (it wasn’t just hype; he really was that good). I remember seeing the headlines as they broke online, and thinking to myself in disbelief, no way, they can’t be talking about Heath Ledger. It was just unreal.

Bernie Mac passed away just last week too, and his death totally took me by surprise too. Who dies of pneumonia in this day and age? It’s just sad because I expected to keep hearing wisecracks and politically incorrect comments and see more Ocean’s movies from him. It’s like George Clooney said, “The world just got a little less funny” with his passing.

And then the death that sparked this blog – Lee Un (Lee Eon). He died in a motorcycle accident early in the morning on August 21 in Korea and was killed almost immediately. I saw a story about his death on Soompi and I was pretty shocked by this one too. He was so young; he was only 27 years old and his career was just starting to take off. It’s such a waste. He was a Coffee Prince from “1st Shop of Coffee Prince,” one of my very favorite K-dramas, and he was so funny and endearing. RIP :(
